A Brief Guide To Tyre Storage

A Brief Guide To Tyre Storage

Tyres, the most critical component of the car, need regular checks and inspections. You can extend their life with proper maintenance while you are using them. You can find a lot of information online about them, and if in Dubai, you can even find Dubai tyres online for buying. Many people are unaware of proper tyre storage when they are unmounted.

Here are # steps to ensure that you are adding to your tyres’ life and ensuring safety on the road:

You can either remove the tyres yourself or hire a professional to do it for you. See that you are careful in noting down the position of each tyre. This way, you can rotate them when you put them back after storage. Keep the manufacturer’s specified pressure if you are storing your tyres on the rims.

  • Tyre Cleaning

When you have removed your tyres, see that you thoroughly clean them. Remove all kinds of dirt and substances which could add to their depreciation. Wash them using cleaning a good tyre cleaner. Or you could wash them with soapy water and brush. See that you rinse them thoroughly after washing them. Do not use petroleum-based cleaners, as they can harm the rubber compounds.

  • Use Individual Bags for Storage

When you have cleaned your tyres, store them in separate bags. This will prevent oxidization and ensure that oils do not evaporate out of the rubber, which can make the tyres dry or cause cracks. It is best to mark your tyres so you can know their location and rotate them later.

When you bag the tyres, see they are completely dry, and no vapor gets trapped in the bag. Each of the bags should be completely free of air. Seal the bags with tape.

  • Store Tyres in Cool, Dry Place

You should store your tyres in a place where there is no sunlight because UV rays are damaging to tyres. When tyres are exposed to temperature and humidity fluctuations or excessive heat, they can suffer decay. So, store your tyres indoors and in a place with stable temperature and humidity. Basements are an ideal choice rather than sheds and garages. All in all, tires should be put away far from heat.

  • Positioning in Storage

The best storage positions for your tyres depend on whether you will store them on or off the rims. If you plan to store them on the rims, you could hang them from hooks through the rims or lay them flat while stacking them horizontally. If you go with the second option, use rim spacers to prevent weight from resting on the side walls. Don’t store inflated tyres vertically, as the rims’ weight on a single contact point for a long time could stress that part.

The ideal way to store tyres is vertically, next to each other, since the tyre weight can cause them to deform themselves. You can use a tyre rack too.

Buying tyres has become easy nowadays. If you are in UAE, you can shop all branded tyres online, and benefit from  tyre offers and get them at great prices.
