- Statisticians use the mean as an assessment of the tendency that is central. When I was a teacher, I used normal distribution to rank the standardized test scores of my students.
- The mean establishes which students performed well on the assessment and performed poorly. The ones that scored poorly will have to receive remediation or extra tutoring in the future. Standard deviation:
- The standard deviation calculates how the data is dispersed to the mean.
- I would consider the mean to be the most important part on mornal distribution. The standard deviaton is a great metric, but I would not consider it to be as important as the mean.
